In 2018, Nike had the “On Air” collection, which was an opportunity for people to connect with Nike, and create their own shoe in hopes that it’ll release in 2019. It was held in 6 cities across the world, and each city picked one winner. Now in 2019, we will see all 6 shoe release. Today, we get an official look at the Air Max 98 La Mezcla
“La Mezcla” means “mixture” in Spanish, which is what the creator was going for here. She says she knew she wanted the shoe to “highlight the diversity of my community”. She’s goes on and says “My design is about the people who make NYC what it is, through colors and materials that represent different skin complexions, the Statue of Liberty, the concrete jungle, and the water surrounding NYC”
This shoe was cultivated by Gabrielle Serrano
This shoe is about the small details. I love how the gradient goes from white to dark brown, which I assume is the different skin complexions that make-up NYC. I love how the panel at the bottom of the upper looks like concrete, symbolizing New York’s nickname, the “Concrete Jungle”.
The Air Max 98 La Mezcla will release April 13th. The whole collections won’t be easy to cop, but keep praying to the sneaker gods and hope your prayers are answered. These will be available on Nike.com, through the SNKRS app.
